Why You Should Choose the Goalkeeper Position in Football
If we think back to our childhood days, few kids volunteered to be the goalkeeper—most wanted to be strikers, and even fewer were willing to play in defense. That’s because the striker usually gets all the glory, especially if they manage to score.
At that age, few of us realized that the goalkeeper position is actually the most important on the field. The goalkeeper is the one who makes the difference between victory and defeat.
In our opinion, the goalkeeper is truly the guardian of the team. His role involves both an individual component—where he must defend the goal through his own skill—and a team coordination component (as you can see when goalkeepers organize their teammates during free kicks). This combination of responsibilities defines what it means to be a leader, or an alpha male in a pack of wolves.
That’s why we’re convinced that to be—or to become—a successful goalkeeper, you need the following qualities:
-
Quick reflexes
-
Ability to make instant decisions
-
Team coordination skills
-
Physical speed
-
Flexibility
-
Endurance
Our goalkeeper glove brand, LUPOS, was created specifically to support those in this position, giving them all the tools they need to defend their team against opponents. And the wolf, which represents our brand, was not chosen by chance—its qualities as a predator are exactly the ones a goalkeeper should have.
We encourage all young players who are still undecided about their position on the field to embrace the goalkeeper role. It will undoubtedly contribute to shaping a winning character.
