Goalkeeper Glove Cut Types

The Cut of Goalkeeper Gloves

The cut of goalkeeper gloves refers to the style and shape in which the palm latex is cut, giving the glove its specific, unique properties. There are three main types of cuts, plus one additional type that combines one or more of the main cuts' features. Any other cut names outside of these are simply brand inventions meant to appear innovative.

ROLL FINGER

Roll Finger goalkeeper gloves are identified by the way the latex wraps around the fingers. This type is very popular among professional goalkeepers because it offers a larger latex-to-ball contact surface while also providing a snug, “fit” feel on the hand.

FLAT PALM

The Flat Palm cut is considered a classic, as it’s the oldest and most traditional form. It consists of a single piece of latex attached to the backhand using external stitching. This type of cut usually offers a looser fit, giving more room for the fingers.

NEGATIVE CUT

In this type of cut, the seams are on the inside of the gloves. The palm is made from a single piece of latex attached to the backhand using internal stitching. The Negative Cut offers the tightest and most close-to-hand fit.

HYBRID

The Hybrid is a combination of cuts within the same glove. For example, it could mean two fingers with a Negative Cut and the rest with a Roll Finger Cut—or any other combination.
